A Script I Started...
Not going to finish this. All the dialogue should scan as iambic pentameter, though. It opens with four schoolboys playing war in a field…
THOMAS
(Pointing at Elliot)
Bang!
MONROE
(Monroe catches Thomas’ bullet in the heart and falls)
A hit! And what a laugh at my expense!
Just fourteen… lied enlisting, died for naught.
My country needed blood to feed upon-
well, here I lie to please the quenching throat.
SAMSON
Monroe! Monroe! Your soul and mine were one!
This war has taken ev’rything I loved,
my brothers, friends, my par’nts, my… son.
(Samson kneels down and touches Monroe’s face.)
Forever held in heaven, all are one.
(Samson begins to sob. Joseph walks behind him and raises his toy gun to the back of Samson’s head.)
JOSEPH
Bang!
(Samson falls forward on top of Monroe. Joseph turns to gaze over the audience.)
The war is over- glazed eyes gazing out
from rotting sockets… scattered bodies bloat.
